Our remodel team, which consists of church members Jenny Wickett, Erin Hamlin, Jen Peterson, and Robb Bourdon, along with our professional Architect, Elizabeth Boone, have been meeting for several months to devise a plan to remodel and update the kitchen as well as create one, larger space between the church coffee shop and Wesley Parlor. After consulting with a couple of building contractors it was decided to combine them into one, larger project to save money on some of the overhead costs associated with both of the remodels. The team is in the final stages of acquiring proposals for the work and if all goes according to plan, we should be able to begin the work later this spring or early summer. We have colorful drawings for the kitchen remodel, which we will begin displaying in the Atrium of the church soon. The coffee shop/Wesley Parlor drawings will be coming shortly thereafter. While we haven’t consulted the congregation as a whole for these projects, we have done our best to seek input from the major users of the spaces and feel like we have come up with plans that will create a welcoming and accommodating environment, while trying to maintain as much as possible of the existing layouts. The hardest decision to make was related to removing all of the cabinets and bookshelves in the Wesley Parlor and the final choice to do so was made lots of conversation and thoughtfulness. There will still be a meeting room as part the Wesley Parlor as that is our most requested place for meetings to take place. The remodel team feels you will find the new area brings a sense of openness as you first enter the building, which is important to new visitors and families. If you have any questions, please talk to a member of the remodel team and they would be happy to share any information about the final design.
