The Durango Dementia Coalition would like to offer support to those in the Summit Church community living with dementia and/or supporting/caring for a loved one with dementia.
Currently, the Durango Dementia Coalition (website is durangodementiacoalition.org) has an established Caregiver Support Fund – to financially assist those who need help paying for respite care, transportation, non-covered medical expenses, etc. The application is on the website, is short and easy to complete and offers up to $1,000 per request, with an annual maximum of $2,000.
The DDC also has an email list and produces a very informative monthly newsletter, providing helpful information and resources.
The Dementia Caregivers Support Group is sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association and meets the 1st, 3rd & 5th Wednesday of every month from 10:30-Noon at the Durango-La Plata Senior Center. This group has 2 trained facilitators and provides caregivers with support, helpful information & understanding peers.
Additionally, we have a “New to Dementia” support group – for those individuals with a recent dementia diagnosis. This group meets monthly at the Senior Center on the 2nd Wednesday (10:30 am – Noon) and is facilitated by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
